A blaze gutted a flat in Strathaven in the early hours of this morning, with two residents treated by the ambulance service.
The fire broke out at Kirk Street in Strathaven - at the former Sun Hotel - shortly before 4am this morning, with three fire engines racing to the scene.
Two casualties were removed from the building prior to firefighters arriving.
A witness told Lanarkshire Live : "I woke up at 3.45 am this morning there was one fire engine there and by half four there were three fire engines and an ambulance.
"I believe a lady, her son and a dog were in the flat at the time, although they all got out. The flat is gutted though."
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman told us : “We were alerted at 3.43am this morning to reports of a fire in a dwelling in Kirk Street, Strathaven.
“Operations control immediately mobilised three fire appliances to the location and firefighters extinguished the fire.
"Two casualties were removed from the building prior to the arrival of the Fire Service and handed over to the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.
“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers attended a property Kirk Street, Strathaven at around 4.15am following reports of a fire.
“It is not being treated as suspicious.”
