Two people have died after a crash on the Centenary Highway at Springfield, west of Brisbane.
Police said a car travelling west crossed into the eastbound lanes before colliding with two cars at about 6:30am.
Paramedics, including critical care and the high acuity unit, assessed six patients at the scene where five people were trapped in their vehicles.
Police said the driver of the westbound Mitsubishi, a 22-year-old man from Marsden, died at the scene.
The driver of the eastbound Mazda was a 30-year-old man from Mount Warren Park who also died at the scene.
The Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) said two men in their 20s were in critical condition.
One is a 22-year-old Shailer Park man who was a passenger in the Mitsubishi. He was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
The other is a 28-year-old man who was in the Mazda. He was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.
A Deebing Heights woman, 32, who was in the Mazda, was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a serious condition with leg and abdominal injuries.
The driver of the third vehicle, which was also a Mitsubishi, was a Ripley woman, 24, who was taken to the Ipswich General Hospital in a stable condition.
Police said the Centenary Highway had now reopened between Springfield and White Rock after being closed for about seven hours.
