Two elderly women rushed to hospital in horror hit-and-run

Two elderly women were taken to hospital after a horror hit-and-run in Oldham.

Emergency services were scrambled to Broadway in Chadderton on Tuesday night after an Audi A4 and Suzuki Swift crashed at the junction with Eaves Lane.

Two women in the Suzuki - aged in their 60s and 70s - were rushed to hospital from the scene with serious injuries.

Both remain in hospital, with one in a critical condition, police said.

The Audi fled the scene after the crash.

Officers are now hunting down the driver and appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Broadway was cordoned off after the crash (ASP)

After the crash, which happened at around 6.20pm, a large section of Broadway was cordoned off by police.

Pictures taken at the scene showed officers stationed at either end of the cordon.

The road was shut off for several hours while investigations were carried out.

Sergeant Andrew Page of GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: "This was a serious collision which has left two elderly women in a serious condition in hospital.

"A full investigation is currently underway to establish the full circumstances of this collision and locate the driver of the Audi.

"We're appealing to anyone who may have been in the area at the time and witnessed the collision or the two vehicles in the area at the time to get in touch with police.

"I would urge anyone in the area at the time to check their dash-cam or CCTV footage as you may be holding footage that could greatly assist our enquiries."
