Two dead in caravan fire in Brisbane suburb of Upper Brookfield

A man and woman in their 20s have died in a caravan fire in Brisbane's western outskirts on Saturday morning.

Crews were called to a rural property on Galvin Road in Upper Brookfield about 4:15am where they found the caravan "well alight".

A 22-year-old Lowmead man and 26-year-old Rosedale woman were found dead in the caravan, which was completely destroyed.

Queensland Police later confirmed that Jane Strong and Eli Johnson were the names of the victims.

Another man was taken to hospital with burns to his hands, back of his neck and shoulders, Brisbane region duty officer Inspector Karl Hahne said.

He is in a stable condition.

"The burns are consistent to trying to escape the fire or potentially alert people to the fire but understandably, his health is primary ... our investigators will speak to him in due course and get a version of what happened," Inspector Hahne said.

Inspector Hahne said the man and woman were staying in Upper Brookfield ahead of the Brookfield Show, and several others who were also on the property had witnessed the fire.

"Any loss of life is sad, to lose two people in this way, it's a very sad day," he said.

"Our primary concern now is contacting next of kin," he added.

He said there was a tin roof over the caravan, and there were several structures on the property, including shipping containers.

He said it was not yet known if the man and woman were a couple.

Police and the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) are investigating what caused the fire.

QFES acting superintendent Tim Burchmann said it was unknown whether the caravan had a smoke detector, but they were not required in caravans.

"The circumstances surrounding this incident are going to hit the community very hard, and we encourage everybody within the community to look after each other and be there and support each other," he said.

Brookfield Show Society president Dan Petrie said it was "tremendously sad".

"There's going to be people within our community who are hurting today," he said.

"It's a tight-knit community and obviously news like this is a shock. Today's going to be very, very difficult, but we will rally."
