Two dead in Aldi shooting after gunman opens fire in German supermarket

The bodies of two people have been found after a gunman began shooting in an Aldi supermarket in Germany. Police are currently on site at the scene of the incident which happened at about 1pm local time.

Officers say there is no risk to the general public following the shooting in Schwalmstadt-Treysa. According to newspaper reports eyewitnesses have been reported as saying a man followed a woman into the supermarket. She is understood to have screamed for help.

However the gunman shot her and it is then believed he shot himself. No other people are thought to have been involved.

According to reports in the HNA newspaper the two who died were a 53-year-old woman and a 58-year-old man. A number of police cars are thought to remain around the building.
