Two dead and baby among three rushed to hospital after Limerick crash as gardai shut road

Two people have died and three people were rushed to hospital after a horror crash in Limerick overnight.

The collision involving a car and van happened on the N21 at Ballycarrane in Patrickswell around 9.25pm.

The occupants of the car, a man and woman both aged in their 30s, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their bodies have been removed to University Hospital Limerick.

Meanwhile a man, woman (both aged in their 20s) and baby boy in the van were taken to University Hospital Limerick for treatment and are believed to be uninjured at this time.

Gardai have closed the road for a forensic collision investigation and local diversions are in place.

An appeal has been launched for witnesses to contact gardai.

A spokesperson said: “Gardai are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision on the N21 at Ballycarrane, Patrickswell, Co. Limerick, yesterday, Sunday, 24th July 2022.

“Gardai are appealing to any person who may have witnessed this collision to contact them. Any road users who were travelling in the area and who may have camera (including dash cam) footage is asked to make this available to investigating gardai.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Henry Street Garda Station on 061 212 400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

It's the third fatal crash in 24 hours. A teenage driver was killed and two others seriously injured after a car collided with a tree in Kerry yesterday afternoon, while a man aged in his 40s died after he was struck by a car in the early hours of this morning in Mayo.
