A second woman has been raped in broad daylight in the Darwin CBD, less than a week after an unrelated sexual assault.
Police arrested a 56-year-old man on Tuesday afternoon after reports a woman was raped in a laneway.
The man was charged with sexual intercourse without consent and remains in police custody.
He is set to appear in Darwin Local Court on Thursday.
In a separate incident last week, police were called 100m down the road to the Darwin bus interchange after reports a woman was raped in the area.
A 24-year-old man was arrested and also charged with sexual intercourse without consent.
In both cases, police said the alleged offenders were unknown to the victims.
"Any instance of this offending is too many," NT Police Detective Sergeant Scott Russel said in a statement.
"Detectives from the Sex Crime Division will continue to put anyone who engages in this type of reprehensible behaviour before the courts."
There have been 316 sexual assaults between January and July this year, compared with 257 in the same period in 2022.
