Two people have been charged with child cruelty offences after an incident occurred where a 14-year-old boy was allegedly found behind the wheel of a vehicle which did not stop for officers.
The teenager was arrested last weekend, along with his parents, in Tyrone after it was alleged that his parents were present in the Land Rover Discovery at the time of the incident, which occurred on Sunday 29 January, and were drunk, according to Belfast Live.
The teen's parents were charged with a number of offences and appeared at Enniskillen Magistrates Court on Monday in relation to the incident. The 14-year-old was also arrested but later released on police bail.
The pair, a 59-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman, were subsequently remanded into custody following their appearance in court as the case was adjourned to a sitting of Dungannon Magistrates Court later this month.
The PSNI said the driver of the Land Rover Discovery failed to stop and tried to make off, before later mounting a kerb.
A post on the Police Mid Ulster Facebook page said on Thursday: "Last weekend was a busy one for officers across Mid Ulster. Whilst travelling to another incident a Dungannon crew has come across this Land Rover Discovery.
"After questioning the manner of driving they have tried to pull it over. On activating the blue lights the driver has failed to stop and tried to make off. The vehicle has entered the Newell Road before mounting a kerb and stopping.
"On speaking with the driver, officers have discovered a 14-year-old behind the wheel. To make matters worse, the child was accompanied by two passengers - his drunk parents."
