A car erupted in flames tonight after a crash near the centre of Ayr.
Emergency services raced to the scene shortly before 7pm after a two car smash on Craigie Road in the town.
Eyewitnesses reported how the aftermath of the incident had turned one of the motors into a "fireball".
The road has been shut off while police and fire crews deal with the crash scene.
One witness told Ayrshire Live: "Thankfully the incident happened just round the corner from Ayr fire station and the emergency teams were able to get there quickly.
"One of the cars looked to have gone up in flames, so hopefully everyone is okay. It looked a very nasty incident."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers received a report around 7pm of a two car crash on Craigie Road, Ayr.
“Emergency services are at the scene.”
