Two budgies found abandoned in cage on Glasgow doorstep

Two budgies have been found abandoned on a Glasgow doorstep.

The two male birds were dumped on the doorstep of a property on Mossvale Path in the Craigend area of the city on Saturday, June 25. They were then discovered by the person living in the property.

The Scottish SPCA is now appealing for information following the incident. The cage the two blue and white budgies were found in was described as "very dirty" and had not been cleaned for some time.

Scottish SPCA inspector Lara Vickery said: “The two male, blue and white budgies were left in a cage on a member of the public’s doorstep.

“The cage is a dark-coloured wire bird cage containing wooden dowel perches with a white plastic base. The bottom of the cage was very dirty, suggesting it hadn’t been cleaned out in some time.

“Despite the member of the public’s best efforts to find out who the birds belong to and why they’d been left at their property, they were unable to glean any information about the incident.

“The member of the public then contacted our animal helpline and we have now taken the budgies to one of our animal rescue and rehoming centres where they’ll receive the care they need.

“This will have been very frightening for these birds and could have left them vulnerable to predators and the elements.

“We appreciate that people’s circumstances can change, but this is not the correct procedure to follow if you can no longer care for an animal.”

Anyone who is struggling to care for a pet and needs advice and support, or anyone with information on this incident, should call our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
