Two boys seriously injured in 'assault' at West Country private school Blundell's

A serious assault at a West Country private school left three people injured last night (June 8). The headteacher of Blundell's School in Tiverton, Devon, has warned parents of a large police presence around one of the boarding houses today (June 9) following the incident.

Police were called to Blundell's, which is an independent co-educational boarding and day school, at around 1am this morning to reports of a serious assault. It has since been confirmed that three people, including two students, are being treated in hospital while a 16-year-old boy remains in custody after being arrested on suspicion of three counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

As reported by Devon Live, the school's head, Bart Wielenga, warned of police presence around Petergate, one of Blundell's boarding houses, for 'some time'. He said in the letter that the school was working with police and urged parents not to engage in speculation.

Superintendent Antony Hart, local policing commander, said: “This is a very traumatic incident for those involved and the wider school community and we will continue to work closely with the school, providing support to those involved.

“At this time it is understood that all parties involved are linked to the school. I am keen to reassure the community that there is no wider risk, and we are not seeking anyone else in relation to this matter.

“Throughout the day we will continue with searches and enquiries in the vicinity of the school while we are in the early stage of our investigation.”
