Two schoolboys were attacked by knife-wielding thugs outside a school. The pair were assaulted in Swinton yesterday afternoon.
One boy suffered a stab wound to the hand and the other escaped unharmed after the attackers attempted to knife him in the leg. Both the victims were aged 14.
Police were alerted just after 3.30pm yesterday to reports of a stabbing on Manchester Road, Wardley close to St Ambrose Barlowe RC High School, where pupils queue for buses at end of lessons. But neither the victims or the suspects were pupils at the school.
It is understood both victims were attacked by two other boys aged 15 and 17 who were in possession of a knife. The incident resulted in one of the pupils being stabbed in the hand and suffering superficial injuries. The attackers tried to stab the second pupil in the leg but failed to do so, then fled the scene.
GMP has arrested two suspects who remain in custody. In a statement to local councillors a local GMP officer said: "Whilst this is a concerning incident, due to the quick and effective investigation response by Swinton CID, both suspsects were arrested and remain n custody.
"Today and over the coming days officers from the Salford North East Neighbourhood Team will be in the area on high visibility foot patrol and will be present at entry and exit times of the high school to provide some reassurance to the community, parents, and pupils at the school."
In a statement Greater Manchester Police said: "We were called at around 3.35pm yesterday (11 October) to a report of a suspected stabbing on Manchester Road, Worsley. Officers attended and established two 14-year-old boys were targeted – one was injured.
"Two teenage boys – aged 17 and 15 – are currently in custody on suspicion of assault. Enquiries are ongoing and any information can be passed to us via LiveChat on our website or by calling 101 quoting incident 2066 of 11/10/2022. Ben Davis, headteacher of St Ambrose said: "An incident took place yesterday afternoon around 3:30pm on a street near to our school. It was witnessed by many of our pupils as they were going home or waiting for buses. The incident did not directly involve anyone who is currently attending our school. Staff acted quickly to contact the police who attended and addressed the matter.
"None of our pupils was injured, but some may have seen behaviour that they have found upsetting and worrying. We have prioritised these young people for today and in the days ahead for pastoral and safeguarding support in school."
