Arsenal returned to the top of the Premier League after a dramatic 3-2 victory over Liverpool. Goals from Bukayo Saka (2) and Gabriel Martinelli ensured all three points for Mikel Arteta's side having twice been pegged back by Jurgen Klopp's men.
In what was an entertaining contest throughout, Saka's decisive second-half penalty turned out to be the match-winner. Arsenal now sit a whopping 14 points above Liverpool in the table.
Darwin Nunez and Roberto Firmino were on target for Liverpool, who showed superb grit to fight back twice in north London. With a trip to Leeds United next on the cards for the Gunners, here's how the US media reacted to the result...

''Arsenal beat Liverpool in a five-goal thriller at the Emirates Stadium as Mikel Arteta’s young side went back to the top of the Premier League. What. A. Game. Gabriel Martinelli scored within the first minute and that set the tone for a crazy end-to-end clash as Darwin Nunez made it 1-1 then Bukayo Saka put an out-of-sorts Arsenal 2-1 up right on half time.
''Roberto Firmino made it 2-2 early in the second half but then Saka scored the winner from the penalty spot as a pulsating clash saw Arsenal beat Liverpool for just the second time in their last 15 Premier League clashes against Jurgen Klopp’s side.
''For much of this season Gabriel Jesus has rightly received huge praise for the way he has led the line and knit this exciting Arsenal attack together. But on Sunday it was Martinelli and Saka who stole the show. Lauded by the home fans at the Emirates, it’s easy to forgot this duo are still just 21 years old.
''Their direct running scared the heck out of Liverpool and Martinelli racing free and having the composure to cut inside and find Saka to slot home was a beautiful illustration of their industry and quality. The way they pointed to one another in the goal celebration told us the love and appreciation they have. The understanding throughout this young Arsenal team is growing and so is the belief. The Gunners are going places.''

''It is getting harder and harder for Mikel Arteta to deny Arsenal are in this season's title race. Last weekend's victory over Tottenham was impressive, but beating a Liverpool side that has achieved so much under Jurgen Klopp feels like the statement win this team was waiting for. Emirates Stadium has rarely sounded louder, inspired by the ferocious energy from Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus, a front three in devastating form at present.
''Contrast that with another subdued display from Mohamed Salah, who was on the game's periphery throughout and with Luis Diaz forced off through injury, this was another occasion in which Sadio Mane felt sorely missed. Arsenal benefitted from an inviting fixture list at the start of the season but they have built a positive momentum which has helped take them to deserved wins over two top-four rivals in successive weekends. Manchester City are clear favourites for the title but Arsenal are rapidly reaching the point where they could prove to be Pep Guardiola's main rivals. Special mention, too, for Saka, who successfully converted the most important spot-kick he has taken since missing in the Euro 2020 final shoot-out for England.''

''Mikel Arteta perhaps put it best. When you come to the Emirates Stadium now you are going to experience something together. What was once a house divided is now delivering a communal experience that is elevating its participants to levels they might have believed unimaginable in the recent past. The latest example was the impressive 3-2 win over Liverpool on Sunday.
''Not so long ago Arsenal were the league's laughing stock, a never-ending civil war whose origins were unclear, its end unimaginable. You were with Arsene Wenger or you were against him. Mesut Ozil, Nicolas Pepe, William Saliba or AFTV was the answer to or cause of the problems that bedevilled the team on the pitch.
''No one other than Arteta believed he could harness a united Emirates Stadium. Even he seemed destined to fall into the morass. The battle lines drawn during the rebuild remained right into this season between those who could see it paying dividends and those who expected Arsenal to strive for greater than just qualifying for the Champions League.''
