Two arrested over alleged violence in Lanarkshire street after Old Firm match

Police have arrested two men after an alleged violent disturbance took place on a busy Lanarkshire street earlier this month.

Two other men were taken to hospital following the incident on Rutherglen Main Street on April 3.

Police locked down part of the the street and emergency services were in attendance in the aftermath of the disorder.

The altercation came after Celtic defeated Rangers 2-1 at Ibrox in a vital Scottish Premiership football match.

The two men arrested, aged 19 and 33, will now be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

Police say they are continuing to investigate the incident to identify others who may have been involved.

DI Susie Cairns told Lanarkshire Live : “While we have made two arrests in relation to this incident, our investigation is ongoing to identify those involved in the disorder.”
