Two arrested on suspicion of trafficking women into UK for sex work following police raid in Bolton

Two people have been arrested in Bolton on suspicion of trafficking women into the UK for sex work. The 41-year-old man and 33-year-old woman are being questioned by police following a raid on a home on Wednesday morning.

Police say the pair are suspected of trafficking women by advertising them on online where they are 'groomed into adult sex work'.

The arrests follow an investigation into human trafficking carried out by North West Regional Organised Crime Unit supported by Greater Manchester Police, Lancs Police and Bolton Children's Social Care.

A NWROCU spokesperson said: "A 41-year-old man and 33-year-old woman, both from Bolton have been arrested on suspicion of human trafficking, money laundering, and controlling prostitution for gain. The duo is suspected of trafficking women by advertising them on online platforms where they are groomed into adult sex work.

"The arrests follow an extensive investigation with partners in TOEX, Lancashire Police and Greater Manchester Police. They have both been taken to a local police station for questioning."
