A man has admitted dangerous and drug driving after a crash in Carmarthenshire which resulted in two people being airlifted to hospital in Cardiff. The collision happened on Saturday night in Kidwelly.
Police, paramedics and fire crews were all called to Ferry Road in the town following the crash, which happened at around 7pm. The road was closed for more than nine hours hours as a result, only re-opening at around 4.30am on Sunday morning. Several ambulances attended the scene, and two people were taken to a Cardiff hospital by the Wales Air Ambulance. Fire crews from Kidwelly remained on Ferry Road into the early hours to assist with clearing debris from the road and making sure the area was safe before it could be reopened to traffic. Police confirmed that the two casualties remained in hospital as of Tuesday afternoon, but their condition is not known at this stage.

A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said: “We were called yesterday evening, (Saturday, July 16) at approximately 7.14pm to reports of a road traffic collision involving two vehicles on Ferry Road in Kidwelly. We sent two rapid response vehicles, two emergency ambulances, the Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service, and two Wales air ambulances to the scene. Two patients were airlifted to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff for further treatment.”
Police have confirmed that a man was arrested and later charged in connection with the crash. Matthew Bell, aged 49, of Glan Tywi Ychaf in Ferryside, appeared at Llanelli Magistrates Court on Monday (July 18). A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: "A 49-year-old man was charged with: two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence, using a motor vehicle on a road/public place without third party insurance, and driving a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs.
"He appeared before Magistrates Court on Monday (July 18) where he pleaded guilty and was remanded in custody to appear at Swansea Crown Court on Tuesday, August 2, for sentencing. The two casualties remain in hospital.
