A 24 Y.O. Man Has Been Charged With Two Counts Of Attempted Murder After ANU Stabbing

A 24-year-old man has been charged after four people were injured in a stabbing that took place at the Australian National University (ANU) around 2:45pm on Monday.

Police alleged in a statement that the man, who police do not believe to be a student, first attacked a 34-year-old man with a frying pan.

He then allegedly stabbed a 20-year-old woman multiple times before chasing a second woman, also believed to be in her twenties, who he also allegedly stabbed. It’s then alleged he approached a second male student and punched him in the face.

The two women were rushed to hospital. One was left in a critical condition, the other stable.

The male students received minor injuries, but were not taken to hospital.

The suspect, who police do not believe to be a student, was charged this morning with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault and one count of possessing an object to be used to kill. He is expected to front court today.

Police say they are yet to determine a motive for the alleged attack, but shared that they do not believe the victims were known to the offender.

Police urge any person who has mobile phone footage of the incident to immediately attend City Police Station to provide that footage to police. Anyone with further information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via crimestoppers.com.au referencing P2193413.
