Twix v Aldi Jive v Lidl Caramel Biscuit: We tried each popular chocolate bar to find the best

Settling down with a cuppa and a biscuit sound like a perfect combo on a winter night.

Plain, chocolate, ginger nut or jam may be your favourite flavour.

But you can’t go wrong with chocolate as the go to option.

Debates have raged over whether a Twix is a chocolate bar or a biscuit.

But it hasn’t put off shoppers and is always in the top 10 favourite treats - no wonder as there’s two of them in a pack.

Selling somewhere in the region of 54.3 million per year, Twix which hit the shelves in Britain in 1979 now has its rivals.

No wonder other supermarkets take a chomp out of the market but can they compete with the old favourite, that has become as familiar as a cup of tea.

We put Lidl’s Carmel & Biscuit and Aldi’s Jive to the test to see whether they could match Twix.

Caramel & Biscuit - Lidl - 62p for a packet of five twin bars

I found it to be dry and bland. It really could do with more caramel in there. The biscuit is good but the chocolate left me wanting.

Aldi - Jive - 62p for a packet of five twin bars

The chocolate is nicer than the Lidl but it’s dry because it’s lacking in caramel. I found it to be tasteless.

It’s not chewy and would be better off being a chocolate biscuit.

Twix - £1.25 for a packet of four twin bars

You can really tell the difference in taste and it’s far chewier than its rivals.

It has the perfect blend of chocolate, caramel and biscuit.

The price is double than the supermarket versions.

But I have to say it really is worth the extra.
