Twitter wants the Broncos to draft Michael Penix Jr. after impressive CFP win

The Washington Huskies defeated the Texas Longhorns 37-31 in the Sugar Bowl on Monday night to advance to the College Football Playoff national championship game.

Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. stole the show, completing 29-of-38 passes for 430 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. He also rushed three times for 31 yards.

After the Denver Broncos benched quarterback Russell Wilson last week, fans and pundits have been speculating about who will line up under center for Sean Payton’s offense in 2024. Wilson expects to be released by the Broncos in March, so that seemingly rules him out.

Jarrett Stidham started last week and he will start in the team’s season finale in Week 18, but he’s probably not a long-term answer at QB.

So it wouldn’t be surprising to see Denver select a quarterback in the NFL draft in April, perhaps even in the first round.

Following an impressive performance from Penix on Monday, fans and pundits quickly took to Twitter/X to link him to the Broncos.

As has been noted, Penix does have an injury history that includes a torn ACL and a shoulder injury. If the Broncos believe he’s healthy now and his body can hold up in the NFL, he might be a top prospect to watch in April.
