Twitter users left baffled at opening of new 'communist kebab shop'

Many have been left baffled at the emergence of a new kebab and doner grill in London with a peculiar political name. An image of the shop was shared on Twitter, clearly brandishing its name: The Communist.

A picture was uploaded of the shop's front by Peter Willis (@deadtreesanddye), displaying black and red branding with the words 'The Communist' on display for all to see, MyLondon reports. A hand-painted sign can be spotted through the window.

It read: "Dear customer, The Communist Doner-Grill. It will open soon. First day 1,000 portions of food will be delivered free of charge!..”

Peter tweeted alongside the photo: “New communist kebab shop in Deptford sounds too good to be true tbh.” His tweet has been viewed nearly 300,000 times, racked up 152 retweets, 68 quote tweets and 2,908 likes. Twitter users could not hide their shock at the kebab shop.

One person replied: “So I’m guessing all the staff are equal and there’s no bossman?” Another wrote: “Ha. I can't wait til they expand and get to open a second branch called What Is To Be Doner?”

A third commented: “I can't wait for it to open. totally gonna stan them if they don't extort their customers and still manage to keep up a Deptford rent,” while a fourth said, “Prayers up. Even the most left thinkers don’t really believe you can run a socialist archipelago surrounded by capitalist continents. Hope you stay open for decades”. A fifth simply tweeted: “Eat the rich.”

Not everyone appeared to be impressed with the news, with one person arguing Deptford was becoming more “hipster”. They wrote: “Just when you thought Deptford couldn't be more hipster…” The original poster replied: “Should have gone with ‘Dear comrade’ over ‘Dear customer’ imo.”
