The Los Angeles Rams had a few needs on the defensive side of the ball and they’ve used two straight picks in the 2023 NFL draft on defensive players. After bolstering their pass rush by selecting Byron Young out of Tennessee with the 77th overall pick, the Rams have now taken Kobie Turner out of Wake Forest to strengthen the interior of their defensive front.
Turner transferred to Wake Forest in 2022 after spending a few years at Richmond in college. In his lone season at Wake Forest, Turner notched 10 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, and two sacks.
With the Rams making another pick to improve their defensive front, fans and analysts alike reacted on Twitter to Turner’s selection.
YES. We loved Kobie Turner. Going to rush the passer opposite of Aaron Donald, who will absolutely help to refine his technique. Love love that we’re supporting Donald. Had a 4th round grade on him and wanted to see them go with some of our best available, but happy with it!

L.A. Rams take Wake Forest's Kobie Turner in the third round, 89th overall.
Not bad for a non-combine invite who transferred to WF from Richmond.

89. @Rams select Kobie Turner, slightly undersized DT, average athleticism, quickness, & movement skills, good strength, power, toughness & physicality, good motor, powerful hands, upfield penetrator who is good in run support with pass rush traits, 3Tech DT w upside

Rams got them one heck of an underrated prospect in Kobie Turner. His motor runs hot and his hands are heavy; really good run defender. Most importantly he’s tough to move when he anchors down and has quicks to get into the backfield: pic.twitter.com/xUufCgSzzT

From our analysis on DL Kobie Turner, the Rams' pick at No. 89: "Relentless, bouncy on his feet, great balance and flexibility and fantastic work ethic." Adds Turner plays "much stronger" than his listed weight of 293. Nickname is apparently "The Conductor" for his music ability.

I am beyond excited to get to see @TurnerKobie for the next several years right in my back yard! Rams fans are going to absolutely LOVE The Conductor!https://t.co/hVUeJFzuPK

Kobie turner is a dawg. I thought they'd go edge, wr or cb here but a physical DT wouldn't hurt with AD and Bobby Brown the 3rd.

Kobie Turner gets to play with Aaron Donald. He is a penetrating 3 Tech. The Rams are killing it this year.

Kobie Turner with 2 sacks, 10 tackles for a loss and three forced fumbles at Wake Forest last season. He goes to the @RamsNFL at No. 89 overall.

With the 89th overall pick, the Los Angeles Rams draft Wake Forest DL Kobie Turner. One of the hidden gems of this draft class, Turner is an undersized monster along the interior. At 6’2” and 228lbs, he can win with strength and power against both the run and pass game.
