The Tennessee Titans are reportedly doing what we expected them to do and are releasing left guard Rodger Saffold, a move that will save $10.4 million in cap space for 2022.
Saffold’s play slipped a bit in 2021, especially in pass protection, and he dealt with a shoulder injury that had him in and out of games throughout the season.
Still, cutting a player like Saffold isn’t easy. He was a very good run-blocker, a great team leader, and an all-around good dude during his three seasons in Nashville.
With this move, the Titans now have a major void to fill at left guard. Aaron Brewer figures to be the most likely solution, but Tennessee should also be exploring their options in free agency and the 2022 NFL draft.
After news broke of the move, Titans Twitter had a similar reaction to ours: it’s sad to see him go, but it’s a move Tennessee had to make.
