Late in the second quarter of Sunday’s playoff game against the Buffalo Bills, Denver Broncos wide receiver Marvin Mims took a huge hit on a punt return, then a Bills player stood over him. Mims retaliated by pushing a player, causing a scuffle. The officials then penalized Mims for unnecessary roughness.
Here’s a sampling of how Twitter/X reacted to the strange penalty:

These damn Refs can’t see the snapper standing over him .

That’s just a bad job by the official there, nothing Mims did there was worth a flag, if anything flag the snapper for taunting and they offset.

Mims was upset, thought the Buffalo player was standing over him and then was called for shoving back. Kinda weak, but it is what it is.

Oh nice the bum long snapper wearing 69 (sick number bro) can taunt Mims, take the ball out of his hands, but then Mims stands up for himself and he gets a penalty.
Sick league.

Can someone tell me why Marvin Mims was called for a penalty there?

How is that only a flag on Marvin Mims? And why is that even a flag to begin with? The long snapper is literally taunting right on top of him, why is he allowed to do that but Mims isn’t. Either flag both or neither of them, screwing Denver for no reason.

Mims gets crushed. Then gets penalty for shoving. He was shoving the player he thought stood over him after the hit. Weak call. But it always goes that way with second guy into the mix gets penalized.

I dont get how Marvin Mims got a personal foul call for 3 ppl taunting him and a 4th coming over after the play was far over and trying to rip the ball out but fair play I guess lol

Calling a personal foul on Marvin Mims Jr in that scenario is trash. How are the refs letting defenders stand over a player while they’re on the ground?

Anytime a player stands over another and taunts them after the play it’s almost always a flag.
Not if you’re the Broncos.
In fact the flag is on Denver hahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahah can’t make this up.

The Broncos currently trail the Bills 10-7 at halftime in Buffalo.
