The Washington Commanders have found their defensive coordinator.
On Sunday, the Commanders hired Dallas Cowboys secondary coach/passing game coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. as Dan Quinn’s first defensive coordinator in Washington.
Earlier Sunday, the Commanders hired former Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury as offensive coordinator. While some are down on Kingsbury as a head coach, there is excitement about him as a coordinator.
As for Whitt, he’s universally praised for his work with the Dallas secondary. He’s been working with Quinn since 2020 in Atlanta.
How is Whitt’s hiring viewed around the league? Twitter reacts to the Commanders hiring Joe Whitt Jr. as the defensive coordinator.
I really like the Joe Whitt Jr. hire as the Commanders' DC.
He's done a nice job with the Cowboys' secondary the last couple years. Further weakens their staff entering a potential lame-duck season for Mike McCarthy.
This is the 3rd time Quinn has hired Whitt (ATL, DAL, WSH).

i am disappointed with the Quinn hire and deeply skeptical of Kingsbury but one positive is I think Quinn and Whitt will probably get the most of out Forbes that is humanly possible.

Joe Whitt Jr and Kliff Kingsbury sounds a whole hell of a lot better than Jack Del Rio and Scott Turner.

Joe Whitt Jr. was scheduled to interview Monday for the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator vacancy. Instead, he will follow Dan Quinn to Washington as the Commanders’ DC, a person familiar with his decision confirmed.
Cowboys seem intent on adding a DC with head coach experience.

Dan Quinn. Kliff Kingsbury. Joe Whitt Jr. I’d be lying if I said I’m not hyped for this season. #HTTC

Why be on a 1-year deal with the #Cowboys when you can be assured for running the defense they way you want with a multi-year contract? Joe Whitt, Jr. will be missed in Dallas. https://t.co/rxLtnpsnAf

Quinn locked it down before the interview. Whitt said the Dallas DC job was his dream job previously. These dudes really do love Quinn. https://t.co/SYeXD7xiuM

If Washington can add Al Harris we are really looking at an All-Star staff being built in a matter of days.
Shocking how good this has turned out for them on paper
