The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have fired head coach Geoff Collins. Collins went 10-28 during four seasons as the head coach at Georgia Tech.
Collins notably changed Georgia Tech’s offensive system from the triple option to a more traditional scheme. Georgia Tech was outscored, 107-7, in Collins’ two career games against in-state rival Georgia.
Collins and Georgia Tech did not enter the 2022 college football season with much momentum. The Yellow Jackets lost six straight games to end the 2021 college football season and were outscored, 100-0, in their final two games.
The final straw came when Georgia Tech lost 27-10 at UCF on Sept. 24.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to Collins’ firing:
Signs a plenty
Having a meeting like this following a loss is never good for a football coach’s future.
Georgia Tech’s Athletic Association Board calls a special meeting Monday to address job status of coach Geoff Collins & AD Todd Stansbury, source told @ActionNetworkHQ. 1st reported by @ksugiuraajc. Tech (1-3) has lost 8 consecutive games vs. Power 5 opponents

I’ll admit that I’m pretty surprised Geoff Collins didn’t work out at Georgia Tech.
There’s enough talent in their backyard that a good coach should be able to get things rolling in 2-3 years.

Mark Richt had more wins playing at Georgia Tech than Collins

Not many big wins for Collins
Collins won just 10 career games at Georgia Tech. Arguably Collins’ best win came over UNC last season.
Best memory of Geoff Collins? Waffle House stuff I guess? Legit nothing else comes to mind.

Money, money, money
Patience would save Georgia Tech some money.
The buyout for Geoff Collins if he’s fired as expected tomorrow will be $11.37 million, compared to $7.2 million in January. (It would have been nearly $10.6 million at regular season end.) The buyout for AD Todd Stansbury isn’t prohibitive. https://t.co/p9AplefZ2t

Better days ahead?
Georgia Tech has a lot of talent around it in the Atlanta area.
They knew the Geoff Collins news https://t.co/K2lW7NW9zs

Can they just leave Geoff Collins at a random Orlando Waffle House before coming back?

Developent did not pay off
Georgia Tech put an emphasis on development. However, the Yellow Jackets just couldn’t get results on the field.
My favorite memory of the Geoff Collins era at Georgia Tech was when they had the players lifting weights on the field as part of the pregame warmup. https://t.co/2kI2qZ9SDE

Geoff Collins has set the Georgia Tech program back so far that they’re gonna come out of the locker room after half wearing Russell Athletic.

Georgia Tech opening officially, is the first major domino to fall. In what will be an aggressive pursuit of multiple schools for the services of Jackson State’s Head Coach Deion Sanders.

The only thing memorable about Geoff Collins’ career at Georgia Tech is when Pat Narduzzi wanted to square up with him.
