Twitter down as millions of social media users left unable to use site

Twitter crashed for millions of social media users on Monday night leaving them unable to access the site.

Most users attempting to access Twitter on a desktop as opposed to on the mobile app reported issues from 11pm.

Website crash detection site DownDetector reported the main outages in Manchester, Birmingham and London.

DownDetector reports an incident when the number of problem reports is significantly higher than the typical volume for that time of day.

One user said: "Twitter's working on my phone but not on my computer. Kinda perplexed.

"At this point I'm afraid to post my replies cause I don't know if people will have them in double, thrice or not have them at all."

It comes after the social media platform went down last month, leaving more than 22,000 users without access to the site.

Others hypothesized about whether Elon Musk dispute may have anything to do with the outage.

"I wonder if they are updating the website to get rid of bots etc or maybe Elon Musk broke it," they wrote.

"Has Musk killed Twitter?" another asked.

Twitter is suing Elon Musk for violating the £36.5billion deal to buy the social media platform.

The tech company has asked a Delaware court to order the world's richest person to complete the merger at the agreed $54.20 per Twitter share, according to a court filing.
