Twin Peaks singer Julee Cruise dies after lengthy health battle

Twin Peaks singer Julee Cruise has died at the age of 65 after battling ill health, according to reports.

The singer - best known for penning the theme tune of the hit TV show - passed away on June 9 according to an emotional Facebook post from her husband.

Edward Grinnan paid tribute by writing: "She left this realm on her own terms. No regrets. She is at peace.

"I played her [B-52’s song] Roam during her transition. Now she will roam forever. Rest in peace, my love."

The American singer was a frequent collaborator of Twin Peaks creator David Lynch, after her song Falling provided the soundtrack for the hit 80s TV show.

Born in Iowa in 1965, Julee would go on to become an accomplished singer, songwriter, actress and musician - releasing four studio albums throughout her career.

Prior to her death, the late singer had been living with auto-immune disease Lupus.

Speaking with Pitchfork in 2017, Julee told the publication the condition left her with the “bones of an 85-year-old woman at 33”

The singer appeared on the late-night American comedy show at short notice, after scheduled performer Sinéad O'Connor refused to appear on the same show as guest host Andrew Dice Clay.

Julee performed her iconic track Falling for her stint on the live show in New York City.

One mourning fan took to Twitter to pen: "David Lynch gave us the greatest and most haunting episode in the history of American broadcast TV, and Julee Cruise was the most transcendent, powerful element of all. A beautiful dream that shifts into a nightmare before our eyes and ears."
