After Gene (Henry Winkler) set up an ambush in the last episode, it picks up with Barry in jail, trying and failing to get hold of his terrified girlfriend Sally (Sarah Goldberg). This committed but not entirely convincing US remake of Tom Davis’s massively superior crime spoof Murder in Successville gets a BBC airing. For this first series, Will Arnett’s gnarled senior detective Terry Seattle is joined by Conan O’Brien to investigate the murder of a magician’s assistant. It’s fun in places but never quite nails the right comic tone. PH
