Waterloo Road series 12, 8 pm, BBC One/BBC iPlayer (box set)
It’s certainly been another explosive series of Waterloo Road, and tonight’s finale sees the school drama really go out with a bang! It’s a big day as Waterloo Road debuts its new radio station, with head teacher Kim (Angela Griffin) hoping that troubled student Danny (Adam Abbou) can use the launch to make amends for his past mistakes. Danny’s ‘star’ status angers rival pupil Myles (Osian Morgan), though, who exacts his revenge – with tragic consequences… The closing scenes are both exciting and poignant as pupils and staff unite in support of one of their own, and remind us all why we’re better for having Waterloo Road in our lives. Roll on next term!

The Yorkshire Vet season 16, 8 pm, Channel 5
The vets are dealing with extremes of temperatures tonight. At the Huddersfield animal hospital, a newborn lamb found at the side of the road is freezing cold and very poorly, and while the vets do everything they can to keep him warm, they’re worried about him. Meanwhile, on a hot day at Abbie and her dad Trevor’s farm on the North York Moors, Peter Wright is about to carry out pregnancy diagnoses on nearly 100 of their dairy herd (and yes that means, er, rolling up his sleeves for you-know-what). Over at the Wetherby practice, Julian deals with an emergency call when two-year-old Weimaraner Hugo is brought in with a deep cut on his leg. ‘That’s pretty horrible, actually,’ grimaces Julian – and he’s not wrong.

The Good Doctor season 6, 9 pm, Sky Witness/NOW
Has Perez survived his overdose? Did Lim accept Clay’s proposal? How dangerous will Lea’s pregnancy be? As the medical drama returns after its season six mid-series break, time has jumped on three months to tie up some of these cliffhangers. No spoilers, but let’s just say it wouldn’t be The Good Doctor without Shaun (Freddie Highmore) being involved in innovative major surgery. And fans of House, creator David Shore’s other big hit, will be pleased to see Anne Dudek in a guest role. Series one is available on Channel 4 On Demand.

Jay Blades: East End Through Time, 9 pm, Channel 5/My5 (box set)
As Jay Blades concludes his tour of London’s East End, his final outing highlights historical events from the 20th century. Jay learns about prominent local heroes who lived ‘the East End way’, celebrating community and showing remarkable grit in the face of adversity. He begins with suffragette Sylvia Pankhurst, daughter of Emmeline, who campaigned for better pay and childcare for working women. Jay also hears how pioneering Sri Lankan sailor Kamal Chunchie helped immigrants find work and fellowship. A fascinating look at the region’s chequered past.

The series follows best friends Carrie, Charlotte and Miranda in their 50s. Now older and wiser, they're all embarking on new adventures.
In season 1, Carrie's husband Mr. Big (Chris Noth) died of a heart attack in the first episode, setting Carrie on a collision course with life as a widow. Slowly but surely she's bouncing back and rediscovering herself, and trying to find love again.
The first two episodes dropped on Thursday, June 22 with episodes airing weekly.
Best film on TV tonight
Limbo, Channel 4 On Demand
In writer-director Ben Sharrock’s tragicomedy, a group of asylum seekers are holed up on a remote and barren Scottish island, waiting to hear whether their claim is successful. The film follows young Syrian musician Omar (The Crown’s Amir El-Masry) as his bleak existence consists of watching knock-off DVDs of Friends or waiting around the only telephone box on the island. Absurd humour comes from cultural instructors Sidse Babett Knudsen (Borgen) and Kenneth Collard – who teach the men everything from phone manner to sexual consent – but the dour reality of the group’s situation is ever present. Thankfully, a relatively upbeat finale pokes some light into the proceedings.
