Britain's Got Talent 2023, 7.30 pm, ITV1
BGT has been cheering up our Saturday nights for weeks, and in that time we’ve seen some memorable acts, some Golden Buzzer excitement, plus a week of stunning live shows to give us the grand finalists. Now the big showdown has arrived and the final acts give it their all, to take over from last year’s champion, comedian Axel Blake, and win a £250,000 cash prize and a slot on the bill at this year’s Royal Variety Performance. Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, Bruno Tonioli and Amanda Holden give us their take on each performance, while Ant and Dec get the drum-roll moment of announcing the winner of the public vote.

Spy in the Ocean, 7 pm, BBC One
The makers of Spy in the Wild head under the water for this new series, in which an assortment of incredibly convincing ‘spy creatures’ equipped with state-of-the-art cameras are deployed to give us a close-up glimpse of how the species of the seas interact. First on duty is spy whale, a life-size replica of a whale calf, which attracts the attention of an adult sperm whale who’s intrigued by this random young ’un. But the episode’s emotional high point is definitely the relationship that evolves when spy octopus helps a coconut octopus defend itself from a hungry blacktip shark…

Ten Pound Poms, 9 pm, BBC One/ iPlayer (box set)
The Ten Pound Poms didn’t realise what they were signing themselves up for when they stepped off the boat at the start of the series and there’s another unpleasant surprise in store for them – and us – tonight. Having taken care of bigot Dean as an act of vengeance, Ron (Rob Collins) now has Terry (Warren Brown) in his sights for his part in the horrendous hit-and-run incident that killed an Aboriginal child. In a heartfelt scene, Ron reveals how the Australian authorities often take children from his community away from their parents. It’s a chilling window into an era that seems light years from our own in some ways – and utterly timeless in others.

Gods of Tennis, 9 pm, BBC Two/iPlayer
The amazing feats of US tennis stars Arthur Ashe and Billie Jean King kick off this absorbing docuseries that explores the extraordinary legends who graced the tennis circuit back in the 1970s and 1980s. Full of nostalgia and great insights, it features King talking about her ‘winning mindset’ and Johnnie Ashe recalling his late brother’s many struggles and triumphs. This first episode also shows how both battled for justice off the court — King for women’s rights and equal prize money and Ashe against racial prejudice. It all leads up to the Wimbledon tournament of 1975, when King won the last of her six Wimbledon singles titles and Ashe grabbed a shock win over world No 1 Jimmy Connors.

Best box set on TV tonight
FUBAR is an action-comedy series focusing on Arnold Schwarzenegger's Luke Brunner, a veteran CIA operative who ends up postponing his retirement so he can tackle a newly-unearthed secret.
He's forced to go back into the field for one last job, and the series tackles universal family dynamics set against a global backdrop of spies, action, and humor.
Best film on TV tonight
Brendan Fraser’s Oscar-winning performance is the main event here. He plays a living-with-obesity recluse who’s seeking forgiveness from his estranged daughter – and himself. He is Charlie, a man imprisoned by his own shame and lack of mobility, who spends his days teaching online students literature and over-apologising to everyone, especially spiky teenage daughter Ellie (Sadie Sink). But even as his physical existence fades, Charlie’s still an unshakeable optimist. This is director Darren Aronofsky’s kindest work to date, a film that asks its audience to practise acceptance, understanding, empathy and forgiveness.
