TV tonight: More kitchen chaos in the brilliant Boiling Point

Boiling Point

9pm, BBC One

For all of Boiling Point’s intensity, it does moments of quiet poignancy well, too: in this episode, skint pot-washer Jake is reduced to sneaking bites of food while semi-recovering alcoholic Emily wistfully pours wine into a sauce. As a result of the investors pulling the plug, Point North has been forced into savings. But it becomes clear that a false economy is no economy at all. Glorious TV, even if you’re always faintly relieved when it’s over. Phil Harrison

Big Little Journeys

8pm, BBC Two

More epic journeys with six Lilliputian creatures, particularly the one that received such bad press in 2020 – the Formosan pangolin seeks a mate in a Taiwanese forest. Meanwhile, a family of golden-headed lion tamarins explore a new, abundant land in Brazil. Ali Catterall

Handmade: Britain’s Best Woodworker

8pm, Channel 4

The cheerful woodworking contest continues to demonstrate that there are a surprising amount of amateur experts in Britain. The nine remaining chippies have two days to make a freestanding clock. It gets tricky, as you’d expect, but maybe immunity can be earned in the skills test which involves sculpting a bunch of roses. PH

Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins

9pm, Channel 4

This week, the special forces challenge focuses on trustworthiness under pressure. Sometimes, the Matt Hancock jokes just write themselves. Elsewhere, there’s a challenge so physically demanding that it leads to a series of medical withdrawals. Guiltily entertaining. PH

The Ex-Wife

9pm, Channel 5

This glossy London-set thriller – which debuted on Paramount+ last year – strives for that Big Little Lies vibe of emotional turmoil unfolding in enviable kitchens. Young mum Tasha (Céline Buckens) is fed up of her posh husband’s ex being part of their lives; in the opener, her attempts to break things off backfire spectacularly. Graeme Virtue

The Fast and the Farmer-ish

9pm, BBC Three

The windy wire! The bog run! The tasks in this daft, entertaining tractor-driven challenge show sound like drunken stag-do forfeits, which isn’t inappropriate. There’s an enthusiastic and slightly chaotic mood in this final as two teams of farmers go head-to-head in tests of speed, skill and nerve. Let the banter commence. PH

Film choice

Little Richard: I Am Everything (Lisa Cortes, 2023), 11.05pm, Channel 4

The most intriguing – and certainly the most extrovert – of the inventors of rock’n’roll, Richard Wayne Penniman’s life and career are given a candid treatment in Lisa Cortés’s compelling documentary. She embeds him in a queer narrative, from his early days performing in drag to the musical and sartorial influence of gay musicians Esquerita and Billy Wright. But Richard’s shifts between devil-may-care flamboyance and self-flagellating religiosity suggest that, as one talking head says, “he existed in contradiction”. The other theme running through this eye-opening tale is the racism that prevented the singer’s achievements from being acknowledged, and which gnawed at him all his life. Simon Wardell

Us (Jordan Peele, 2019), 9pm, BBC Two
A family of four go on holiday but one night are confronted by their evil doppelgangers, dressed in red jumpsuits and wielding scissors … With his extremely unsettling 2019 horror, Jordan Peele adds to his stock of urban myths informed by the African American experience. Through Lupita Nyong’o’s mother Adelaide, whose childhood encounter with her mirror twin kicks off the drama, the film-maker touches the dark heart of America (Us = US), where the repressed are unseen but always present.
