Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show

10pm, Sky Comedy
A remarkable and deeply uncomfortable comedy, in which the comedian, writer and film-maker Jerrod Carmichael confronts all manner of evasions, trauma and awkwardness. In the first episode of this week’s double bill, he encourages his friend Jamar to tackle difficult childhood incidents on stage and in the guise of standup. Then, in Homecoming, he introduces his deeply religious mother to his boyfriend, Mike. Phil Harrison

Gardeners’ World

8pm, BBC Two
To have pumpkins ready in time for Halloween you need to plant them around now-ish, apparently. So, with summer (technically) on the march, Monty gets some seeds in the ground. Meanwhile, Sue explores a unique Carmarthenshire garden, while Carol teaches us how to grow plants for free. Ali Catterall

Hidden Treasures of the National Trust

9pm, BBC Two
Every classic country home is about showing off, really, and in this episode of the series narrated by Downton’s butler (yes, that’s the actor Jim Carter doing the voiceover), we hear about the significance of Saltram House, in Plympton, Devon, to the great 18th-century society portrait artist Joshua Reynolds. Ellen E Jones

The Young Offenders

9.30pm, BBC One
The bawdy, big-hearted Cork comedy is fast approaching the end of its fourth series and poor Jock (Chris Walley) is still banged up in a Colombian prison. With Jock’s daughter about to turn six, it falls to his eejit bestie, Conor (Alex Murphy), to bodge together a bodycam to facilitate a clandestine birthday video call. Graeme Virtue

Celebrity Gogglebox

10.10pm, Channel 4
A new series of the (oddly less involving) celebrity wing of the couch potato staple. Running the rule over the week’s telly will be Danny and Dani Dyer, Rylan Clark and his mum, Linda, and Jennifer Saunders and her daughter, Beattie Edmondson. PH

The Nevermets

11.15pm, Channel 4
More from the series following online relationships as they transition into the physical realm. This time, Matt from Warrington and Maria from the Philippines finally get together after a three‑year virtual courtship – but can face-to-face reality possibly hope to match up to the virtual version? PH

Film choice

Hit Man (Richard Linklater, 2023), Netflix

Ostensibly based on a true story, Richard Linklater’s immensely enjoyable comedy thriller has much more to it than the bizarre facts of the case. Glen Powell – in a star-making turn – plays mild-mannered college teacher Gary, who moonlights doing tech work for the police on sting operations. One day, the undercover cop is unavailable, so Gary steps in to pose as a hitman for hire – and discovers a talent for playing the bad guy. But when he falls for Maddy (Andor’s Adria Arjona), who wants her violent husband bumped off, his mask slips. Powell and Arjona bring a frisson reminiscent of Clooney and Lopez in Out of Sight, their electricity the icing on the cake of a twisty crime caper. Simon Wardell
