TV show forced to scrap entire episode for being ‘75% Gregg Wallace’

Dave Gorman has revealed that an entire episode of his upcoming series Modern Life Is Goodish was axed because it heavily featured TV presenter Gregg Wallace.

Wallace stepped down from MasterChef at the end of 2024 following multiple complaints and allegations of sexual misconduct, which he has denied.

The 60-year-old was accused of making "inappropriate sexual jokes," making lewd comments on set, requesting phone numbers from female production staff, and undressing in front of women on set.

And now Gorman revealed that they scrapped an episode in his upcoming series due to the BBC star’s recent controversies because it was "75 percent about Gregg Wallace”.

The 53-year-old told The Guardian. “We made four [episodes]. But one of them is 75% about Gregg Wallace. It’s in the bin.”

The episode was completed just before the allegations against Wallace and presented him in a positive light.

However, following the controversy, airing the episode in the upcoming series, which launches on February 24 on Sky, was deemed inappropriate.

He added: “It’s sort of taking the p**s out of him but in a very loving way, tongue in cheek.”

Gorman explained the comic sketch in more detail: “There’s a routine that sets up the idea that I’ve invented a product. I need to get a celebrity endorsement for it. The punchline tying all the routines together is that he’s filmed an advert for it.”

The Dave star added that they tried to remove mentions of Wallace in order to salvage the episode – but it was impossible.

“It’s a structured piece with a flow to it. Every routine connects to every other routine,” he added before joking, “What I’m saying is: I’m the real victim.”

Last year, Wallace was accused of inappropriate behaviour by 13 people, including Newsnight presenter Kirsty Wark, across a range of shows over a 17-year period.

He resigned from the BBC One cooking show in November following 19 years as a host and was replaced by food critic and I’m A Celebrity! star Grace Dent.

Wallace initially claimed the allegations came from “middle-class women of a certain age” - but later apologised and said he “wasn’t in a good headspace” when he made the comments.

Wallace faces a wide range of misconduct allegations including “talking openly about his sex life” and telling a junior female colleague he was “not wearing any boxer shorts”.

His lawyers have said it is entirely false to suggest he engages in behaviour of a sexually harassing nature.

Former MasterChef contestant Emma Phillips-Jennings accused Wallace of repeatedly thrusting his groin in her face as she crouched at an oven while filming the show in 2009.

She described Wallace’s alleged behaviour as “unprofessional and disgusting”. The incident was reportedly filmed by camera crew but not included in the episode.

Wallace has also been accused of pressing his crotch against a woman working on the BBC show, Eat Well For Less, during filming in a supermarket in 2015 and allegedly touching the bottom of another woman during a group hug in a lift in 2022.

Shannon Kyle, who was Wallace’s ghostwriter on his 2012 memoir Life On A Plate, alleged he touched her bottom during a television appearance, rubbed her thigh while driving in the car, and dropped his towel in front of her.

Multiple high-profile names, including TV presenter Ulrika Jonsson and Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, have condemned his alleged behaviour.

MasterChef producers said in November 30 they had appointed a "rigorous" law firm - Lewis Silkin - to lead the investigation into his alleged misconduct.
