TV’s Sophie Morgan ‘in a rage’ after blue disability badge stolen from car

TV presenter Sophie Morgan was left “in a rage” after her Blue Badge was stolen from her car in London.

The Loose Women presenter uses a wheelchair and was working in America last month when thieves broke into her car in London.

She now faces weeks until her car is fixed and is issued a new badge which she said was incredibly “disabling”.

“I had this rage in me at the injustice, all the frustration, the inconvenience, all of those feelings,” she told the BBC’s disability podcast, Access All.

Ms Morgan said the thieves smashed the “window on the passenger side” and only stole the disability badge from her car.

“I can’t drive my car without my badge as I can’t get in or out of the vehicle without space to get my wheelchair beside my car,” she said.

“And without the guarantee of a disabled space, it’s not worth the risk.”

The incident was reported to Ms Morgan’s local council, Southwark, who will issue a new pass.

According to the Department for Transport, in the year ending March 2022, 1,497 badges were stolen in the UK.

Due to the theft of the badges, some councils have moved towards Companion Badges which are digital and work alongside the blue equivalent.

Haringey Council launched its own Companion Pass in August in 2021 to enable people to park in multiple locations.
