TV presenter Sarah Beeny reveals cancer diagnosis as she starts treatment

TV presenter Sarah Beeny has announced that she has breast cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy.

Sarah, 50, who is mostly known for presenting UK property shows, including Help! My House Is Falling Down and Sarah Beeny’s New Life In The Country, shared she started treatment last week.

Despite her diagnosis, the property expert revealed she would continue to work and is focused on a new Channel 4 series and book she has planned for later in the year.

Sarah told the Daily Telegraph that she had “a little bit of a breakdown” after receiving the news about her diagnosis in a hospital consultation room.

She told the newspaper: “I’m lucky because I live in a family where we all talk.

“They just said, ‘You will be honest?’ and I said, ‘I promise you that I’m going to be around for a jolly long time yet. It’s going to be a bit difficult. But I promise I won’t lie.’ And I think they were OK once I said that.”

The broadcaster, who has four children with her artist husband Graham Swift, added that she plans to draw on her “inner strength” throughout her treatment process.

Sarah also revealed that before starting treatment, her sons supported her by cutting off her hair in advance rather than waiting for it to fall out.

Keeping things lighthearted, Sarah joked she wouldn’t advise anyone to let four teenage boys loose on their hair.

She mocked her sons, saying they wouldn’t be famous hairdressers, but revealed that despite the tears beforehand, there was a sense of joy after.

Sarah lost her mother to breast cancer when she was 10 years old, with her mum Ann also being diagnosed with a brain tumour.
