TV, commentators set for Georgia vs. Notre Dame

The No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs (11-2) play No. 7 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (12-1) game in the Sugar Bowl.

Georgia returns to action after having a bye in the first round of the 12-team College Football Playoff after beating Texas in the SEC championship. Georgia is slight favorites over Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl, which is expected to be a pretty evenly matched game.

In the first round of the playoff, Notre Dame beat Indiana 27-17 in game that was not as close as the final score indicated. Indiana tacked on two late fourth quarter touchdowns after trailing 27-3 at Notre Dame.

The Sugar Bowl, which is a College Football Playoff quarterfinal, will be played in the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, and will be televised on ESPN. The Sugar Bowl is set to be played at 8:45 p.m ET on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025.

The television commentators for the Sugar Bowl game are Sean McDonough (play-by-play), Greg McElroy (analyst), and Molly McGrath (sideline). The same trio commentated the Notre Dame versus Indiana game.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart is 2-0 in his UGA career against Notre Dame with wins over the Fighting Irish in 2017 and 2019. ESPN’s matchup predictor gives Notre Dame a 53.9% chance to beat Georgia, who is without starting quarterback Carson Beck. Georgia will start Gunner Stockton in Beck’s place.
