An Ayr diner can now proudly add the title of ‘Scotland’s best burger’ to their name.
Nanny Mary’s scooped the prestigious award at The Scottish Entertainment & Hospitality Awards last week.
The popular eaterie - which serves up stacked burgers, loaded fries, milkshakes and waffles, pancakes and crepes - were also selected as finalists in the ‘Best Family Venue’ category at the awards, held in Glasgow.
Staff shared of a “turmoil of emotions” as the restaurant, on Smith Street, was announced as boasting the best burger in the country following a team of judges travelling the country trying and testing every finalist.
And they praised the “outstanding” support from the community in bringing home the trophy for Ayr.
A post on their Facebook page read: “As we were enjoying our staff night out, we heard it... ‘And the Winner for Best Burger in Scotland is, Nanny Marys’.
“There were tears, joy, shock and whole turmoil of emotions.
“We wouldn’t have gotten to the finals if it wasn’t for our outstanding supporting community so thank you so much for following our journey and believing in us.
“We did it! We brought the trophy home to our little town of Ayr!”
The Facebook post also praised Nanny Mary’s “amazing staff” who work “so hard to make sure they try their best in everything they do.”
It added: “Honestly, you guys are amazing.
“We are a small family run business doing what we do in memory of our beautiful Nanny Mary, so this for us was really such a beautiful moment for our family to take a minute and remember why we are doing what we are doing.
“And to be recognised for that is so amazing and we couldn’t be anymore grateful.”
Nanny Mary’s bagged best ‘New Food Business of the Year’ at the Prestige Awards in October 2022.
