Once you arrive there, among the best beaches is Konyaaltı Plaji, found on the west of the city. Known for its soft, golden sand and stunning mountainous backdrop, it gets very busy during peak summer season.
Another option is Mermerli Beach, found in the old town. A smaller beach found in a cove with green surroundings, it's a calmer and more peaceful choice.
Cirali Beach is more isolated again, with its serene surroundings perfect for swimming. However, it is quite some way south from the city.
If you're after a combination of attractive coastline and history, Phaselis is the beach for you. Found near ancient ruins from the city's days under the Roman Empire, it is a relaxing and relatively untouched spot.
There is also plenty to do to get you off the beach. Found at the city's heart, Republic Square should be the starting point.
The square hosts all big public events and celebrations and has the Ataturk Monument in its centre. From the square it is only a short walk to the marina, while the nearby Yivli Minare Mosque is a striking building with great views of the city.
There are plenty of interesting historical sites across the city. Hadrian's Gate leads you into the Old Town, a scenic and winding collection of charming streets and buildings with terracotta roofs, leading to the Kaleici Harbour.
The harbour is full of restaurants and bars with views of the sea. The fresh seafood is not to be missed.
Running along Antalya's coast is The Lycian Way, a great walking trail with incredible views of the coastline. The entire length of the trail is a multiple-day challenge, running 520km in total, but it is worth popping up for a spell for the views alone.
The ancient city of Aspendos is a must-visit for history buffs. The ruins are very well preserved, with its stunning Roman theatre that once held 12,000 people the highlight.
