The death toll is still rising and will continue to rise. There are already several thousand dead from Monday's earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, but with over 6,000 buildings destroyed, that can only be a very conservative tally. Turkey's president has declared a three-month state of emergency for affected regions in what's already the deadliest earthquake the country has seen since Izmit in 1999.
