Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed the country's readiness to contribute in any way possible towards achieving a ceasefire in Gaza during a parliamentary session. This statement comes in the wake of US President Joe Biden's announcement of plans to collaborate with Turkey, Egypt, Qatar, Israel, and others to work towards a ceasefire in Gaza, release hostages, and end the conflict without Hamas in power.
Qatar, a significant mediator in the indirect talks between Hamas and Israel, recently suspended its role due to a lack of good faith negotiations between the two parties, leading to the closure of the Hamas office in Doha. Turkey had previously refuted claims of Hamas relocating its political bureau to the country, despite warnings from the US against hosting Hamas leaders.
Erdogan's remarks to parliament followed the implementation of a ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel. He expressed satisfaction with the agreement and urged all parties, particularly Israel, to uphold their responsibilities to maintain peace in the region.
