Tourists planning a trip to Turkey should know that the UK Foreign Office (FCDO) has updated the country's travel advice.
Authorities are urging Brits flying to certain parts of the country to be cautious as they are advising against travelling to the provinces of Hakari, except for essential reasons. Anyone going to this area should take extreme care.
Mount Ararat, in Ağrı province, is a special military zone, and access permission must be obtained from the Doğubayazıt Government Office, along with payment of a fee in the local Governor’s Office, Wales Online reports.
If you are visiting with a travel agent or a tour group, you should confirm with them whether you would require an individual permit. Travellers are being advised to keep up to date with local media and follow the advice of the local authorities.
THE FCDO regularly issues travel advice to inform British nationals about various updates in different countries. The government department advises on issues including health, terrorism, security, local laws, entry requirements, natural disasters and money.
The government previously advised Brits all but essential travel to the province of Sinark, which lies next to the border of Syria.. Tourists should not to travel to any part of Turkey within 10km of the Syrian border.
Fighting in Syria continues in areas close to the Turkish border and there remains a heightened risk of terrorism in the region.
