Tulisa delivers sassy nod to past controversy at Manchester Pride gig

Tulisa made a storming return to the stage at Manchester Pride with a defiant nod to her past drama.

The 30-year-old singer spent two years in self-imposed hiding, admitting that she'd moved to 'the middle of nowhere' to escape the public eye.

But the former X Factor judge embraced her return to the limelight as she stepped out at the annual LGBTQ+ festival clad in a pair of giant fluorescent shades and cut-out dungarees.

Tulisa kicked off her set with Scream and Shout, released as a single by Will.I.Am and Britney spears in 2012.

It was a defiant move for Tulisa who previously claimed she'd written the No.1 song and had been planning to use it on her album The Female Boss.

Then in 2018 Tulisa successfully sued Black Eyed Peas frontman Will.I.Am and is now credited as a writer on the track.

Speaking about the controversy on Loose Women this year, Tulisa said: "I don’t feel bad blood about it. At the end of the day it’s not a move I would have done. But look at the success that he’s got out of it and off the back, I can’t complain, I’ve got a Number One hit in loads of countries around the world, so everyone won.”

The 'sassy' move did not go unnoticed by fans of the former X Factor judge.

"Tulisa taking back what’s hers by starting her set with Scream and Shout is what Pride is all about," said one.

The singer also delighted fans with some throwbacks to her early career as she performed hits from the NDubz back catalogue.

It's set to be an emotional night for music fans at Manchester Pride as US singer Ariana performs in the city only for the second time since the fatal terrorist attack at her concert in 2017.

She last took to the stage there for charity gig One Love Manchester, arranged to raise money for the victims of the tragic bombing.

22 people were killed on May 22 2017 and more than 50 reportedly injured after a bomb exploded in the foyer of Manchester Arena moments after Ariana had the left stage.

In June 2018 the Thank U Next singer said she was suffering from anxiety and 'signs of PTSD' a year after the attack.

“Yeah, it’s a real thing. I know those families and my fans, and everyone there experienced a tremendous amount of it as well,” she told British Vogue.

“It’s hard to talk about because so many people have suffered such severe, tremendous loss … I feel like I shouldn’t even be talking about my own experience – like I shouldn’t even say anything.

“I don’t think I’ll ever know how to talk about it and not cry.”
