TUI sends holiday warning to passengers travelling this week

TUI has warned passengers travelling this week to 'allow extra time' for their journey in case of rail disruption.

Half of Britain's rail lines will be closed during strikes on June 21, 23 and 25 by the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT). The disputes have flared over pay, jobs and conditions.

The strikes will have a heavy impact on transport to and from Gatwick Airport, with a limited number of trains running. Ahead of this week's disruption, TUI issued a statement to passengers.

TUI said: "We have been advised that due to the national train strike services at Gatwick Airport will be significantly affected.

"Only a limited number of trains will run from Gatwick Airport to London and towards Brighton between 7am and 7pm on these days, with no service running outside of these hours.

"Gatwick Airport recommends customers use alternative travel to and from the airport on these dates and allow extra time for your journey. Customers can check National Rail Enquiries for the latest train times."

Further disruption at Gatwick Airport is expected this summer. The airport is reducing the number of daily flights during its busy summer period to help tackle issues over staffing.

Gatwick is planning to limit its number of daily flights to 825 in July and 850 in August compared to a reported 900 daily flights during the same time period in previous years. It said the decision was taken following a review of its operations and that it is "temporarily moderating its rate of growth" for two months to help passengers "experience a more reliable and better standard of service".

Gatwick added that the reduction allows airlines to manage more predictable timetables and help the ground handling companies during the school holidays, adding that the vast majority of scheduled flights this summer will operate as normal.
