The UK's biggest tour operator has issued a warning to holidaymakers jetting abroad this week amid ongoing travel disruption. With major issues expected to be caused by rail disputes, TUI has warned passengers to organise alternative arrangements if they have any doubts about their journey to the airport.
TUI said: "We’d like to remind customers of a planned national train strike on Wednesday, July 27 which is likely to affect services into airports across the country throughout the day and into Thursday, July 28.
"If you are heading on holiday on either of these days please plan ahead and make alternative plans to get to your departure airport if necessary. We’d also recommend allowing extra time for your journey."
More than 40,000 workers at Network Rail (NR) and 14 train operating companies are set to strike in England in a dispute over pay, jobs and conditions. Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) will walk out on Wednesday July 27, potentially crippling rail services across the country, reports the LiverpoolEcho.
TUI has introduced a range of facilities to enable passengers to beat the crisis. Holidaymakers can now drop off bags the night before departure at selected airports, including Manchester, Gatwick and Birmingham. The travel giant promised it was working hard to limit flight delays and cancellations.
It added: "We are doing everything we can to limit any flight delays, which can happen from time to time for various operational reasons. On the rare occasion flight delays do take place, we will do everything we can to support our customers, through direct communications and providing overnight accommodation and transfers where needed, as well as meals and refreshments."
