TUI ditches face mask rules on more UK flights as it updates policy

TUI, Jet2, easyJet, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic have been easing their face mask rules on flights - and now TUI is extending its new policy to include more UK routes.

The holiday giant already changed its policy earlier this month, which means that passengers travelling on TUI airways flights to/from England or Northern Ireland are no longer required to wear face masks, in line with local guidance.

Now this has been extended to also include flights to/from Wales, following the news that face masks are no longer a requirement in indoor public places or public transport in Wales.

Although face masks are no longer mandatory, the airline said in a statement that it will "strongly recommend" passengers still wear marks during their flights.

Anyone aged 12 or over flying on routes to/from Scotland will still be required to wear a face mask unless exempt.

TUI isn't the only airline to have relaxed its face mask rules in recent months.

Now that face masks are no longer a legal requirement in England and Northern Ireland, and as a result a number of airlines including TUI, Virgin Atlantic, Jet2 and British Airways have all relaxed their face mask policies.

It's likely that other airlines could follow in TUI's footsteps following the change in Wales restrictions.

There are some holiday destinations which continue to have face mask rules in place, including these as a mandatory requirement on inbound and outbound flights.

For example, face masks are mandatory on any flights to/from the USA, and Italy operates similar rules.

Holidays abroad are getting easier for Brits, with a number of countries easing their restrictions around pre-travel Covid tests and quarantine.

Meanwhile the UK's travel rules also eased back in February.

Under the latest changes, fully vaccinated arrivals no longer need Covid tests before or after arriving in the UK. For unvaccinated arrivals there are still pre-departure and post-arrival tests, although the requirement to self-isolate for 10 days has ended.

There are hopes that passenger locator forms could also come to an end in time for Easter.
