Fox News Channel host Tucker Carlson on Monday evening said wearing masks was “purely a sign of political obedience” and not a method of avoiding contracting or spreading the coronavirus.
The Tucker Carlson Tonight host used his opening monologue to dive into what he suggested should be the response to public mask-wearing outdoors, comparing it to “Kim Il-sung pins in Pyongyang—we wear them because we have to. The only people who wear masks voluntarily outside are zealots and neurotics.”
Carlson claimed that refusing to wear a mask in Washington, D.C. would lead “angry Biden voters will snort at you in judgment.”
Carlson then urged viewers to push back at mask-wearing people they encounter in public, describing mask-wearing as “repulsive—don’t do it around other people,” and—dismissing CDC guidelines that children ages 2 and up wear masks “in public settings and when around people who don’t live in their household”—said that anyone who sees a child wearing a mask outdoors should consider it a form of abuse. “Call the police immediately,” Carlson said. “Contact child protective services.”
If his intention was to spark outrage on social media, he was successful:
