Commuters have vented their anger as a signal failure caused the Piccadilly Line to come to a near standstill amid the strikes chaos.

Tube passengers have been hit with disruption across a number of lines early Wednesday due to a 48-hour rail strike.

But in addition, a signal failure in the Green Park area caused severe delays across the entire Piccadilly line, adding a fresh headache for commuters.

One commuter caught up in the disruption, Ewan, said: “Why does the Piccadilly Line never work. Useless.”

A second, Peter Collinson, tweeted: “Stood at Northfields for 45mins this morning and two trains terminated there! On packed train now that will terminate at Acton Town! Nightmare!”

Meanwhile, a third added: “Piccadilly Line biggest pile of sh*t ever. What am I paying all this money for?”

In its advice to customers, TfL said at 9am: “Severe delays due to an earlier signal failure in the Green Park area. Tickets are being accepted on London Buses.”

The 48-hour national rail strike called by the RMT union has also caused severe delays on the clockwise section of the Circle line, and part suspended the Bakerloo between Queen’s Park and Harrow & Wealdstone.

As of 9am, there were minor delays between Earl’s Court and Richmond / Ealing Broadway on the District Line due to the strike action.

Meanwhile on the Elizabeth line, there are severe delays between Paddington and Reading / Heathrow and between Liverpool Street - Shenfield because of the industrial action.

A reduced service is running on the Overground until 6.30pm, with no service between Romford and Upminster, New Cross and Surrey Quays and between Barking and Barking Riverside.

The Hammersmith and City line was also experiencing minor delays as a result of the strike.
