Tua Tagovailoa injury: Dolphins QB suffers concussion vs. Bills

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered a concussion against the Buffalo Bills and was ruled out for the remainder of the game.

Tagovailoa suffered the injury on a fourth down scramble up the middle that earned first down yardage, but ended with the quarterback leaning headfirst into a tackle made by Bills safety Damar Hamlin. After being attended to by Dolphins trainers, Tagovailoa walked off the field under his own power.

Head injuries were a significant cause for concern for Tagovailoa during the 2022 season when he twice landed in the NFL’s concussion protocol and appeared to suffer significant hits to the head in three games. The injuries cost him four games, as well as a playoff appearance, but were so serious that Tagovailoa admitted that he considered retirement from football.

After adding weight and training to avoid more concussions, Tagovailoa managed to play all 17 games last season without a significant injury.

Prior to his injury Thursday, Tagovailoa was 17-of-25 passing for 145 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions. He was replaced in the game by Skylar Thompson.
