If Tua Tagovailoa can stay healthy, the star signal-caller believes that the Dolphins can be a “very scary” team to contend with in 2023.
Although the Chiefs, Bengals, Bills and Jets are stronger favorites to win the AFC than the Dolphins according to the oddsmakers at SI Sportsbook, the former Heisman Trophy winner told the Palm Beach Post that his team is the one to fear this upcoming season.
After generously supplying the Miami Edison High School football team with equipment and uniforms, the accurate gun-slinger stated: “I think we’re definitely legit contenders.”
“There’s no doubt with the guys we have on the defensive side of the ball, with the guys we have on the offensive side of the ball. And now with this being the first time as an offense, we get to come back understanding the plays already kind of molded into the offense a little more, I think. I think it can get very, very scary, pretty dangerous,” added Tagovailoa.
The fourth-year signal caller, who has compiled a 23–13 record as a starter in the NFL, threw for 3,548 yards and 25 touchdowns in an injury-plagued 2022 campaign. If the former Alabama standout can stay healthy, the sky’s the limit in year two of coach Mike McDaniel’s high-powered offense.
“I think the things that have hurt me have been just the injuries,” said Tagovailoa. “And so, you know, I’ve been working really hard to, you know, hopefully, elongate myself, you know, throughout to withstand seasons. And so, you know, we’ll see how all that plays out. And God-willing, I can make it through the entire season and we can win a playoff game, we can win a Super Bowl, all of that good stuff.”
After failing to play a full NFL season in his young career, Miami is a clear threat to win it all in 2023 if he can stay under center.
