At this rate, Miami Dolphins fans might be hoping that the offense saves some points for the season opener.
Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins offense are off to a hot start in their final preseason game before the regular season, putting 17 points on the board against the Philadelphia Eagles. Miami scored on all three possessions to open the game.
The contest opened with Tagovailoa targeting the speedy Tyreek Hill on the first play, working off play-action. Hill manages to get behind the defense, and then tracks down the throw for the huge play:

Whether this throw is evidence of what Hill called Tagovailoa’s “legendary accuracy” might be in the eyes of the beholder, but on this shot play, the two were able to connect to set the Dolphins up in Philadelphia territory.
Miami capped off the drive with this well-executed sprint concept, with Tagovailoa hitting River Cracraft in the end zone on the out route for the touchdown:

On their next two possessions, the Dolphins started to feature their running game. Their second drive, which ended in a field goal, began with this explosive run from Raheem Mostert:

Mostert identifies the cutback opportunity, and then exploits it with speed, racing around the right edge for a 26-yard gain.
Their third possession ended with another touchdown, this time coming on a short run from Sony Michel:

The Dolphins open the season against the New England Patriots. Right now, that game looks like it could be a tale of two offenses. One trending in the right direction, and one…not.
